The future of one of Victoria Dock’s most iconic buildings is now secure!

In June 2009 we wrote to you to let you know that Hull City Council had agreed to a lease in return for a peppercorn… well two years later, we can confirm that we now have the keys to the Winding House and Planning Permission to start the renovation work.

As you may know, the Church on Victoria Dock is playing a large part in this project so the building will also become the spiritual centre for the village.

Why a café and community space?

• You felt that a meeting place for residents and visitors is what was needed
• We agree and feel that we can also help the community by providing a welcoming atmosphere and also a good cup of coffee!
• It will add character to the area and will be the centre of the Heritage Trail which brings to life the fantastic history of Victoria Dock

What next?

• To tidy up the grounds and the interior of the building
• Bring in professional help to make the building weatherproof
• Start raising money….  We have enough in reserve to clean out the inside and make the building water tight, thus, keeping it from deteriorating further. We are applying for funding and hope that over time we will raise the money to bring the Winding House back into use as a café and a community space.
